The wait is over and we finally have a Deadpool & Wolverine team-up movie IN THE MCU! Who could of predicted this when the first Ironman movie came out back in the early 2000’s.
IMPORTANT NOTES
MCU = Marvel Cinematic Universe
Fox Studios = used to own a bunch of superheroes created by Marvel Comics
Marvel has recently purchased the rights to these characters from Fox meaning now Marvel owns most of its roster of heroes and villains and can start giving fans the stories that made Marvel so damn entertaining in the first place.
Why have I called this a love letter to the MCU? Well if you have been paying attention to the movie you will see a lot of endearment to the past heroes even if it is portrayed through Deadpools quick whip and hurl of insults and gags, its done in a way that endears itself to the past.
Characters left in the void (no spoilers) are characters that were part of the Fox Studios movies that Marvel Studios have not yet introduced into the MCU. It felt so good coming back and seeing these characters stuck at the end of time banded together. It’s symbolic of how Fox didn’t tie anything together but Marvel has this intricate web of stories and timelines.
Quote from Ryan Reynolds: “This isn’t just Deadpool saying ‘Oh, Hello’ to the MCU. It’s Deadpool – and Hugh, Shawn and me – saying farewell to a place and an era that literally made us. We are forever grateful to the fun, weird, uneven and risky world of 20th Century Fox. It was our origin story and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. And thank you to Kevin Feige and Disney for allowing us to share it.

SPOILER TERRITORY
The Plot:
The universe timeline we know has lost its anchor being (centre of gravity) and is on the clock before exploding. The TVA (Last seen in Loki season 2) have reached out to Deadpool to help save the timeline. He is tasked by a rogue TVA agent to procure another anchor being to save the timeline with.
This sets Deadpool out on a mission to find a Wolverine that he can use for this mission. After meeting some very good representations of Wolverine over the years including Cavilrine (Henry Cavil) he finds the worst Wolverine ever a failed hero who let his team die and now welcomes death, but he can’t die.
The unlikely duo fight it out in the void as they travel to the end of time. They meet a version of the Human Torch and take on Sabretooth (last seen properly in Xmen) and a band of forgotten Fox movie universe villains. They are captured and taken to the villain of the movie Cassandra Nova the sister of Xmen Charles Xavier.
They escape and fight it out again in the best fight scene in Marvel history, and then meet the forgotten Fox movie universe heroes of old including Blade, Elektra, Gambit and X-23 (last seen in Logan). They make plans for a final battle with the villains. The battle is epic, and has some great one-liners.
One of the villains Pyro (last seen in Xmen) double-crosses Cassandra Nova and that allows Deadpool and Wolverine to escape again but this time with Cassandra Nova’s help. They make it back to Deadpools timeline and have to face over 100 versions of Deadpool using all the known variants of Deadpool throughout Marvel history for what is one brutal bloody and super entertaining battle.
It turns out the TVA agent is planning his own little surprise but so is Cassandra Nova who is now back in Deadpools timeline and hell-bent on eradicating every timeline except the Void. She starts burning timelines while Deadpool and Wolverine argue about who gets to die saving the Marvel timeline. Plot twist happens and one of them sacrifices themselves not for glory but for the other one to live. Something catastrophic happens and they both have to link up to save the timeline, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) reveals his non CGI abs in all their glory and they save the timeline.
The TVA take down the rogue agent, remove Cassandra Nova and thank the heroes. Our heroes agree to part ways but go back on that very quickly to explore what it would be like teaming up as best buds.
This plot summary does no justice to the epic size and scene that this movie sets. This movie was insane but highly enjoyable. YOu can almost feel the genuine mateship between Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds ooze through the camera.
The Characters
Deadpool: Wade Wilson aka the Merc with a mouth played by Ryan Reynolds is back and in his first MCU outing. This version of Deadpool is by far the most outrageous and 4th wall breaking of the Deadpool movie series.
Wolverine: Logan played by Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine after having killed off the character in Logan. Hugh is in prime shape and just feels right about the yellow and blue suit and can I say the cowl is icing on the cake.
Paradox: Matthew Macfadyen plays Paradox a rogue TVA agent who is trying to make his own mould of the Marvel timeline.
Peter: Peter Delaney also known as “PeterPool” is back from Deadpool 2 as a coworker and moral support for Wade Wilson. He also comes up handy later in the movie and is Deadpools biggest fan.
Cassandra Nova: Emma Corrin plays a convincing villain who has some creepy but so intriguing powers. The fingers in the skull telekinesis power is cool to see and feels very real as they fade between reality and dream switches.
And the Cameos:
- Blade – The one Wesley Snipes is back in his role earning him two Guinness Book of Records awards.
- Colossus – Stefan Kapicic voices the hero again as for all 3 Deadpool movies.

Deadpool & Wolverine The Verdict:
I rate this film 5 stars. I think the cast crew and anyone who had advance screening did an exceptional job of keeping these cameos locked down. The plot was aimed high, the production really kept my attention moving from point to point i really felt Logan’s pain and for once Deadpools sense of need to belong. Well done to everyone involved, this is a movie you never think would be approved to film but its happened and we FINALLY have a Wolverine that looks the part in the suit.
