Career

Looking for a career where you can work online and get paid? This page will help you. Working online opens up a lot of doors for you to work for a global brand. I’ve trained hundreds of interns and thousands of people and been the springboard for many of these people to join big-name brands and start their management trajectory.

My immediate advice is to build your network, build your Rolodex and go out of your way to grow an audience or a following. This means you need to showcase your skills by building something. You then have to put in out in the public domain for people to see it. Once it’s live you can leverage it as demonstrated experience in the category you want to work in.

My professional career trajectory was not as linear as some people’s, I’ve been retired in my 30’s and bored out of my brain by it. I put it into 3 key life choices. You can Give Up, You can Give In or you can Give it All You’ve Got!

Starting a Career in Tech

Getting a job in tech is not easy, you need to have some technical skills to get the role. But if you have the technical skills then you just need to focus on getting the interviews lined up.

If I was hunting a job in tech today here’s my plan for getting my next job:

  • Review and optimise my resume
  • Scan popular job sites
  • Go to LinkedIn and open the LinkedIn pages of 8 tech companies I would work for
  • Go to their jobs page on LinkedIn
  • Read through the one that I like and scan the requirements
  • Highlight any gaps between what they want vs what I can do
  • Apply right away
  • Skill up and try to cover the gaps before the interview
  • Make sure I highlight the proactive approach of trying to patch the gap
  • Post on LinkedIn about the work I would like to do, show examples of my experience and call out Im looking for work
  • Network like a madman
  • Take interviews on jobs closely related to what I really want to do
  • Be aggressive and apply for jobs, hit my network up and start a conversation with people in similar roles.
  • Do this daily until I get that role

The result is your responsibility. Getting to the result is easy if you apply yourself, if you take action every day you will get there. But you have to try each day 2 steps forward. Hit me up if you need an introduction to anyone or if you need a guide.

How Many Times Should You Fail?

Richard Branson failed 400 times launching random businesses before he launched Virgin. His most successful company to date.

Steven Spielberg was rejected 3 times by the University of Southern California. If he did not keep pushing through the world would never have got the chance to see the magic of his films.

J.K. Rowling had the Harry Potter book script rejected 12 times by publishers before getting the ok. If she had stopped at 11 so many people in the world would be robbed of happiness. My wife is a huge Harry Potter fan.

Tim Ferris had his NY Times best-selling book the 4 Hour Work Week rejected by publishers 25 times. But he kept going and thankfully he was published, and in the process helping the world see how VAs and outsourcing make it easier to build businesses. Thanks, Tim.

Good luck on your journey.
